Roller/sprag style internally mounted integral backstops are used to prevent reverse rotation of the output shaft. Holding action is achieved through positioning of sprags that contact the shaft preventing reverse rotation. Typical uses include elevators, inclined conveyors and pumps. Backstops are not a substitute for a brake. NOTE: these backstops are designed to prevent reverse rotation five (5) times or less in an eight our period with one minute or more in the “overrunning” direction. If the desired operation is more frequent, the application must be referred to Rexnord for review. Roller/sprag style backstops are available for most F Series, Quadrive and Drive One gear drives.
